WALTZER LANTERN
'Waltzer is a character, a persona, and a songwriting collaboration unit. Waltzer is a one-woman project and even a sketch-comedy routine.', the Chicago-based garage-rock artist professes. Admitting that Sophie Sputnik, her previous moniker made music that people-pleased, Waltzer seems to be liberated from this burden, her new single 'Lantern', being a fantastic example. It landed alongside a charming animated video that's simple, but effective, directed by Kelton Sears. Gritty bass and electric guitars tangled in delay introduce the track, locked in with the thundering toms. The vocals are moody and blues-influenced, as she admits 'my attention span is a swinging lantern', 'combined meditation, I've done it all, only half-way through.', reeling off all of the things she failed to complete, bringing light to a relatable modern quality of living that's so fast-paced and chaotic that we rarely see things through to the end before starting on something new. -Ellie Rose-Davies
